FraudFactor Action Alert!

July 7, 2001 - FraudFactor - A FraudFactor Action Alert has been issued for the "Handgun Licensing" Bills being pushed through the California Legislature by the large Democrat majority in both the state Senate and Assembly, for ultimate signature by Democrat Governor Gray Davis.

IT IS URGENT THAT YOU CONTACT DEMOCRAT GOVERNOR GRAY DAVIS DAILY IN SACRAMENTO, CALIFORNIA, AND AT HIS DISTRICT OFFICES, NOW AND REPEATEDLY, AND:

URGE THAT HE VETO THE TWO FIREARM LICENSING BILLS:

SENATE BILL 52 (SB 52) and ASSEMBLY BILL 35 (AB 35)

ALSO EXPRESS THAT HIS SIGNING SB 9 INDICATES THAT HE IS SOFT-ON-CRIME AND PREFERS TO TARGET AND PUNISH LAW-ABIDING CITIZENS AND PREVENT SELF-DEFENSE. SB 9 IS A NEW CRIMINAL STORAGE OF FIREARMS LAW THAT CREATES CRIMINAL PENALTIES IF A FIREARM IS STOLEN AND MISUSED IN A CRIME AFTER THE LOCK IS BROKEN AND REMOVED

See the information below on what to tell Gray Davis.

TELL GOVERNOR GRAY DAVIS:

Tell Gray Davis that the reason that California is suffering power blackouts is because the Democrat politicians in Sacramento have been asleep at the power switch, and have been busy concentrating on their dangerous and extreme gun control agenda rather than preventing and solving our energy crisis.

Tell Gray Davis that he should veto SB 52 and AB 35 because the last twenty years of scientific research has shown that gun control increases violent crime and never reduces crime, costing thousands of lives each year and endangering everyone including those who choose not to own firearms. This research includes the federal Wright-Rossi Report, studies by Professor Gary Kleck ( Florida State University), and Professor John Lott, Jr. (Yale University).

Tell Gray Davis that multiple studies by Professor Gary Kleck (Florida State University) and others show that:

  1. Firearms are used at least five times more often in the U.S. for self-defense by ordinary people than they are misused in all crimes, suicides, and accidents combined;
  2. Defense with a firearm is significantly safer and more effective than any other method, including non-resistance;
  3. There are approximately 2.6 million defensive uses of firearms each year in the U.S. by ordinary people, almost always without shooting the attacker - mere possession and display is almost always an adequate defense; and
  4. Armed citizens provide substantial crime control and deterrent effects that rival those of the criminal justice system.

Tell Gray Davis that SB 52 and AB 35 are unreasonable extreme bills because they are dangerous and counter-productive, they target and punish ordinary nonviolent citizens with no criminal intent, and they prevent and inhibit self-defense.

Tell Gray Davis that if SB 52 and AB 35 become law, you will be walking precincts, working phone banks, donating money, and doing everything else possible to elect Republicans and un-elect Democrats, for as long as you live.

Additional Information:

These bills are being misrepresented as "Safety Bills" by soft-on-crime liberal Democrats including those in the news media. Yet the scientific criminological research has shown that gun control increases violent crime and never reduces crime, costing thousands of lives each year and endangering everyone, including those who choose not to own firearms. This dangerous result includes firearm licensing laws.

The actual affect of these bills will be to severely limit the ability of ordinary nonviolent law-abiding citizens to purchase a firearm for self-defense and family protection.

In addition to the immediate harm these bills will cause, they will set a dangerous precedent. Once passed, it is only a matter of time until the Democrats' incremental firearm confiscation agenda moves forward again. Additional legislation will be introduced to:

  1. Require a license for firearm ownership and possession; and
  2. Make this license as difficult to obtain as the current self-defense permits (also known as CCW permits) that allow concealed carry of a loaded handgun in public for personal protection.

To see the current status of these bills, how the legislators voted on these bills, and to read the full text (62 pages for SB 52 and 69 pages for AB 35), follow the two links below.

Typically, nearly all the Democrats vote for banning and restricting firearm ownership, and nearly all Republicans vote for preserving self-defense rights and for laws that are proven effective, and that target and punish only criminals and not ordinary law-abiding citizens.
