Incompetent News Media Misleads the Public Again by

Gun Store Shelves Nearly Bare After Democrat Firearm Bans Take Effect in California July 7, 2001 - FraudFactor - A recent visit to multiple gun stores in Los Angeles and Orange County, California, was a real shocker. The shelves are still nearly bare after the Democrats in the state legislature passed, and Democrat Governor Gray Davis signed into law, multiple bills banning firearm sales. It is clear that the Democrat agenda includes driving firearm dealers out of business as part of their overall firearm ban and confiscation agenda. As usual, almost all of the Democrats voted for these bills, and almost all of the Republicans voted against them. To see the current status of these bills (enrolled), how the legislators voted on these bills, and to read the full text (8 pages for SB 15 and 32 pages for AB 23), follow the two links below. Senate Bill 15 (SB 15) in the 1999-2000 Session - 8 pages - Polanco. Firearms. Bans the sale of most new and all used out-of-production handguns except antique curios and relics, by arbitrarily defining them as "Unsafe Handguns", i.e., so-called "Saturday Night Specials". This Democrat gun ban even banned the L.A.R. Grizzly, a very large, heavy, high quality, magnum caliber (.45 Winchester Magnum) handgun based on a strengthened version of the classic Colt 1911 design, costing more than $1,000.00 new and almost as much used, as an "Unsafe Handgun" or "Saturday Night Special". The liberal Democrats promoting this bill, including those in the news media, misrepresented this bill as a ban on "small, cheap Saturday Night Specials that blow up in your hand when you try to shoot them". Obviously, if there were such firearms being sold, there would be many examples of product liability lawsuits against the firearm dealers, distributors, and manufacturers, who would be sued out of business, yet there was no record of any significant number of such lawsuits. http://www.LegInfo.ca.gov/cgi-bin/postquery?
Senate Bill 23 (SB 23) in the 1999-2000 Session - 32 pages - Perata (Democrat). Firearms: assault weapons. This bill banned numerous popular traditional self-defense and sporting semiautomatic firearm models by re-defining them as "assault weapons". The definition uses arbitrary political definitions, that have no rational basis, to ban as many firearm models as possible. This bill even banned very expensive olympic competition target pistol models as "assault weapons" simply because the ammunition magazine is inserted forward of the grip rather than inside the grip. These pistols cost several thousand dollars each. All of the firearms banned fire one bullet for each pull of the trigger. These are not machine-guns as the Democrats promoting this bill, including those in the news media, manipulated the public into believing. http://www.LegInfo.ca.gov/cgi-bin/postquery?
